The Edo-Tokyo Museum was founded on March 28,1993,as a facility to preserve the historical heritage of Edo-Tokyo. At the Special exhibition gallery, visitors appreciate selected exhibits on subjects related to Tokyo¡Çs history and culture, scheduled several times a year.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (the new Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum) opened on March 18, 1995 with a major survey of contemporary Japanese art. The new museum is located in Kiba Park, in the east area of Tokyo. This is the first public contemporary art museum in Tokyo.
